Evolve in the Community
Community involvement is a very important aspect of the social work profession. Your involvement in the community can be as simple as volunteering at a local community event, or as extensive as becoming a community organizer. Our Lady of the Lake University defines a strong community as, one which generates a participatory energy that makes residents feel integrated and empowered.
Recently Evolve Counseling & Consulting had the pleasure of participating in the annual Trunk or Treat Event in Town of Fort White. This event is a great example of individual community members coming together to bring joy and excitement to local children. It was great seeing local businesses and individuals volunteering, their time, and services. This sense of community tends to bring out the best in people, and inspires them to do more for themselves and the people around them.
Evolve will continue to volunteer in the community, but I am also challenging all of you to do the same. Whether you are a social worker or not, community involvement is key to empowering our current and future generations. Take the time to find opportunities to help others. Volunteering at your local schools, shelters and churches are all great ways of getting involved in your community. Big or small, young or old, we can all do something to inspire someone around us. Please feel free to comment on how you will get involved in your community, or share some of the things you have already done. I look forward to hearing for you!
